Carbon trading is still a hot issue on the fifth day of the Summit. Some developing countries have demanded that the mechanism of carbon trading be made more just. Indonesia, backed by seven other forest-rich countries, is going to push the REDD proposal be approved during conference so that credits for avoiding deforestation can also be traded. But some parties do not agree with using avoided deforestation for carbon trading, as in developing countries it is difficult to make such guarantees on the fate of the forest. So the best solution is mitigation, they say, by introducing better technology.
